Playing to a packed house at LA's The Echo this past Wednesday night, Jenny Lee Lindberg of Warpaint has emerged a fully formed artist with the release of her debut album "right on!" (available now via Rough Trade Records). One of the more hotly anticipated releases of the year, the album at times manages to convey a haunting melancholy that's funneled through Lindberg's ethereal vocals while channeling a restless energy on the album's more aggressive tracks such as "boom boom" and "riot."
Going under the moniker jennylee, Lindberg confidently took to her new role as front woman of her own project despite minor technical hiccups early in her set. It was something to see the jennylee band functioning as a solid unit throughout the seemingly all too brief set. Although making for a somewhat tricky shoot, the blue and red hues that permeated her time on stage were absolutely the right choice given her moody compositions and low-key presence.
