Cloaked in a tribal wolf mask and dressed in warlike fatigues, the mysterious Slow Magic materialized onto The Observatory stage for a special performance as part of the co-headlining So Cute tour with fellow electronic superstar Girraffage on a cold Saturday night in Orange County just before Christmas.
The crowd gathered was suitably warmed up by openers Daktyl and Lindsay Lowend before Giraffage took the stage, transforming the concert hall into the OC's hottest EDM spot. While the earlier DJ's got the crowd suitably pumped, Slow Magic's set differed greatly in that the masked DJ incorporated a visceral element of performance to his set. Typically accompanied by live percussion when on stage, Slow Magic doesn't just drop beats but creates something completely his own with his enigmatic persona that seems aimed at challenging audiences' preconceived notions of just what to expect at an electronic show while still obliging with a fun set.
Seeing Slow Magic live is a mesmerizing spectacle, an entrancing live show filled with throbbing rhythms and dazzling lights. Check out my photos from Slow Magic's set at The Observatory, also featuring Giraffage and Lindsay Lowend, below.
