Brooklyn's own Liturgy stopped by Santa Ana's Constellation Room this past Monday night, opening for noise rock mainstay Lightning Bolt. The solo project of vocalist and guitarist Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, Liturgy just wrapped up a month long tour of the US in support of the band's latest release, The Ark Work (available now via Thrill Jockey).
Evoking the sound of experimental pioneer Glenn Branca, Liturgy created a mesmerizing sonic force of chaotic dissonance and grimy beauty. As a live act, Liturgy's presence was more subdued than the band's music may suggest, letting the rhythm section (namely drummer Greg Fox) fulfill the role of rock god but it provided a great counterpoint to the music, letting the art speak for itself.
